Tiny Tots Program

WHAT IS THE WWPLAC LITTLE ATHLETICS TINY TOTS CENTRE PROGRAM?

  1. Stability (balance, landing and rotating)
  2. Locomotor (running, jumping, hopping, skipping and leaping)
  3. Manipulative (throwing and catching)

Activities may include: running and jumping over rope ladders, mini hurdles, hoops, throwing and catching bean bags, and playing with the parachute. Tiny Tots athletes may also have the opportunity to participate in some introductory athletics skills such as long jump & learn about running on the track.

WHEN DO THE SESSIONS RUN?

The WWPLAC program is held weekly on Friday afternoons at McEvoy from 5pm for 45-60 minutes – before the older age groups begin their events. Please arrive by 4:50pm to sign in and be ready to start by 5pm.

Tiny Tots runs over October to March during the athletics season with a break over the xmas & new year period. If weather or field conditions are unsafe the program for that week may be cancelled or a slightly different program offered if possible. Updates will be provided via the WWPLAC Tiny Tots WhatsApp group which you will gain access too only once you register.

Please note: GROUP SIZES ARE CAPPED to ensure activities can run safely.

If the committee have capacity they will always endeavor to open up additional session times if possible. Please volunteer and let it be known if you would like to be more actively involved or want to join the WWPLAC Tiny Tots coordinators team to help us facilitate the program.

WHY IS THE PROGRAM IMPORTANT FOR YOUR CHILD?

Children are active learners and need to move to learn and by doing so, they learn to move with skill and enjoyment. At this stage of development, children learn best through play which is often spontaneous and unstructured but with appropriate encouragement, their skills can be developed at the same time.

HOW DO I, AS THE CARER/PARENT, GET INVOLVED IN THE PROGRAM?

Its easy! Each week, the Tiny Tots Coordinator(s) will invite families to be involved in activities with their OWN child. The Tiny Tots Coordinator(s) seek your active participation and supervision of your own child to enable your child to foster a passion for our great sport of Little Athletics and also as a launch pad into participation in a wide variety of sporting and recreational pursuits.  With your support and involvement as the role model in their lives, you will give your child every opportunity to “Be Their Best” and at Little Athletics, this is all we can ever ask for!

IMPORTANT: At least one parent or guardian MUST remain with their child throughout each Tiny Tots session.

In accordance with the Constitution, children who register in Tiny Tots must remain in the program for the full season, even if they turn five during that time.

DOES MY CHILD NEED A UNIFORM TO PARTICIPATE?

WWPLAC encourage families to wear the Tiny Tots shirt and comfortable bottoms or shorts that are sun safe. Enclosed shoes/joggers MUST be worn for safety (No sandals, crocs or thongs style) A hat is encouraged and should always be worn between events.

If any families or athletes have any concerns or issues around wearing, obtaining the uniforms or design used constructive feedback is always welcomed – please reach out anytime to our committee or Tiny Tots co-ordinators.

Please note: For competition (6yrs+) WWPLAC Tops, age number and bibs are mandatory to compete and to have any times, records and results officially recorded. If they are competing abroad in carnivals or zone events they will not be able to participate if they do not have their uniforms, bibs and age numbers on. It is great to get our little athletes into the habit early of wearing a uniform weekly and being proud to represent their centres.
